»How wonderful that there are still children's book authors with such a wealth of imagination.«
Hamburger Abendblatt, Hamburg
»Tomi Ungerer is a hit with children because he is himself a child. The highly sensitive Ungerer, with his heartfelt charm, devotes all of his friendliness and tenderness to children, while reserving his ridicule, disdain and macabre sense of humour for adults.«
Manuel Gasser
/ du, Zurich
»A brilliant author of children's books. His books for children are timeless.«
Libération, Paris
»Tomi Ungerer knows what constitutes good children's books: They are both full of fantasy and close to daily reality, a little brazen and subversive – and never obsequious.«
Facts, Zurich
»No one, I dare say, no one was as original. Tomi influenced everybody.«
Maurice Sendak
»Both Mr. Ungerer's approach and his visual style – inspired by Saul Steinberg, with elements of George Grosz and Paul Klee – seem to have seeped into the DNA of children's literature.«
The New York Times
»A virtuoso of provocation and an expert in the field of fear.«
