Leinsee

Published by Diogenes as Leinsee
Original Title: Leinsee

A love story between deepest grief and greatest happiness.

Karl is not yet thirty but has already made a name for himself as an artist in Berlin. He is the son of August and Ada Stiegenhauer, the most glamorous couple of the German art scene. But there was no room for a child in his parents’ symbiotic relationship, so he was sent away to boarding school. Now his father has committed suicide, and his mother has a brain tumour. In Karl’s cosmos everything begins to sway, and suddenly comes to a standstill. The only constant is a little girl, Tanja, who entices him back to life with her childlike carefreeness. And here begins a story as wild as a thunderstorm, as gentle as a breeze.

Leinsee was nominated for the ›LitCologne Debut Prize‹

Germany’s independent booksellers shortlisted Leinsee for their ›Favourite Book 2018‹

›Prose Writers’ Workshop Grant‹ from the Literary Colloquium Berlin for the Leinsee manuscript

»Leinsee is an ideal holiday novel for on the road.«

Elke Heidenreich / WDR 4 Buchtipp, Cologne

»In her debut, Anne Reinecke pokes fun at artists’ clichés and incidentally presents us with a magical love story.«

Birgit Eckes / Kölnische Rundschau

»A feather-light artist’s novel that starts with death and develops into a tender, mother-of-pearl white cloud.«

Manuela Haselberger / BücherMagazin, Kiel

»This debut by Anne Reinecke is many things: eloquent, melancholic, humorous, deep.«

Daniela Stohn / Brigitte, Hamburg

»Leinsee is an experience, intense and rich in reality.«

Björn Hayer / Cicero, Berlin

»An impressive debut: Anne Reinecke strikes the right tone with her novel: poetic yet in no way kitschy.«

Julia Meyer-Herm / Donna, Munich

»The author writes honestly and openly, at the same time only implying what is necessary. With its lightness Leinsee is the perfect book for the first warm spring days.«

Nicole Abraham / Hessischer Rundfunk, Frankfurt

»The snarky digs against the art scene are wonderfully accomplished and give the novel an appealing atmosphere alongside the psychological depths the characters possess.«

Jochen Deutsche Welle / Bonn

»This is a wonderful book about love and about love taking time. And about the fortune of having the opportunity to give your life your own twist. About the possibility of having a second coming-of-age.«

Ute Rodde / Aachener Zeitung

»Leinsee is a highly entertaining, almost fairy-tale like novel, that is well meaning towards readers.«

Otto A. Böhmer / Wiener Zeitung
